Who we are
Momma’s House: Supporting Success Through Access and Opportunity
Momma’s House is a nonprofit organization founded by Nicole Avina, M.Ed., an educator with extensive experience in Early Childhood Education and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by adult learners and single parents. Nicole holds an Associate’s, Bachelor’s, and Master’s degree in Education with an emphasis on Early Childhood Education, and her personal journey of completing higher education while raising young children as a single parent directly inspired the vision for Momma’s House.
Nicole’s lived experience revealed the critical gaps in support for individuals who, despite determination and ability, struggle to succeed due to limited resources and family support. Momma’s House was created to bridge those gaps by providing practical, essential services that remove barriers to education and self-improvement.
Our mission is to empower individuals in the Taft community to achieve personal, educational, and career success by providing access to resources that promote stability, resilience, and growth.
Momma’s House provides at no cost:
Wi-Fi, computer access, and printing (including paper and ink)
Tutoring coordination and academic writing support
Scholarships and guidance in securing additional funding opportunities
Transportation to Taft College
Utilities, kitchen access, and parking
Basic school supplies
Childcare services
One free dinner daily
By offering these services, Momma’s House reduces the obstacles that often prevent individuals—particularly single parents and adult learners—from reaching their full potential. We believe that by investing in people and ensuring equitable access to opportunity, we can strengthen not only individual lives but also the community as a whole.
Momma’s House is more than a resource center; it is a place of hope, empowerment, and possibility.
